"Emmie the Sea Turtle" - Hand-Painted Surfboard
This is a hand-painted, upcycled surfboard featuring "Emmie the Sea Turtle" in underwater scene from Ningaloo Reef, by Western Australian artist Claire Marie. "Emmie the Sea Turtle" is a split view composition, with Emmie seen swimming in the warm waters of the Ningaloo Reef lagoon. She has been painted on an upcycled Bourton Batfish surfboard that was donated by my partner Martin. He surfed this board almost exclusively for three years throughout Australia and Indonesia, but it has languished at the back of the board rack for the last 10 years or so. The unique bat tail and wide dimensions of this board was a perfect canvas on which to paint Emmie. This is a special piece of art as Emmie is named after my Nanna who passed away last year.

This board is a recycled, used surfboard that was destined for landfill. As such, it has some surface imperfections but this is part of the charm of these artworks. Please note that the board is clean and all rough edges have been removed, but this board has not been refurbished or restored and is not water-tight, and thus cannot be used as a surfboard. It is designed for interior display only.
